ACHILLES TENDON PAIN PHYSIOTHERAPY NEWCASTLE

Stronger Tendons. Confident Steps. Back to What You Love.

Achilles tendon pain can make your first steps in the morning uncomfortable, limit your walking and turn an enjoyable run into a frustrating experience.

At Up N Adam Performance Training & Physiotherapy in Hamilton North, Newcastle, we take the time to understand your symptoms, assess your tendon function and identify factors that may be contributing to your pain.

Whether you're dealing with persistent Achilles tendinopathy, pain when increasing your running or recovering from an Achilles injury, our physiotherapists can help you develop a clear pathway towards improved strength, movement and confidence.

Rebuild tendon strength. Restore confidence. Return to the activities you love.

Understand Your Achilles Pain. Build a Stronger Recovery.

The Achilles tendon connects your calf muscles to your heel and plays an important role in walking, running and jumping.

Achilles pain can develop when the demands placed on the tendon exceed its current capacity to tolerate loading. Understanding your symptoms and physical capacity helps guide an appropriate rehabilitation plan.

Understand What's Causing Your Pain

We assess your symptoms, tendon tenderness, calf strength, ankle movement and activity demands to help identify the likely cause of your Achilles pain and guide treatment.

Rebuild Tendon Strength for the Long Term

Progressive calf strengthening and carefully planned increases in activity help improve the Achilles tendon's capacity for walking, running, jumping and sport.

Your Pathway From Achilles Pain to Confident Movement

Successful Achilles rehabilitation involves understanding your symptoms, managing tendon loading and progressively rebuilding strength and functional capacity.

We discuss your symptoms, training history, previous injuries and goals before assessing tendon function, calf strength, ankle movement and relevant functional tasks.

We explain our findings and develop an appropriate management plan, including guidance on modifying activities while maintaining suitable exercise.

Your rehabilitation may include progressive calf strengthening, tendon loading exercises and lower-limb conditioning tailored to your symptoms and activity goals.

When appropriate, we progressively reintroduce running, hopping, jumping and sporting activities, helping you build the capacity required for your goals.

Your Achilles Needs the Right Load, Not Just Rest.

Although reducing aggravating activity can help settle symptoms, long-term recovery from Achilles tendinopathy generally involves progressively rebuilding the tendon's capacity to tolerate loading.

PERSONALISED ACHILLES REHABILITATION

More Than Pain Relief. Rebuild Tendon Capacity You Can Measure.

Achilles rehabilitation is about more than reducing pain. It involves restoring calf strength, improving tendon load tolerance and preparing your lower limb for the demands of everyday life, exercise and sport.

At Up N Adam, we assess calf strength, ankle mobility, single-leg function and the physical demands of your activities.

Where appropriate, we use objective VALD testing, including dynamometry and ForceDecks, to measure strength and functional performance and help guide rehabilitation progression.

For runners, we may also assess training loads, running technique and the progression of running volume and intensity.

Our goal is to help you understand your Achilles pain, rebuild physical capacity and return to activity with greater confidence.

Achilles Tendon Conditions We Assess and Treat

Achilles pain can occur in different locations and may require different management approaches. Accurate assessment helps determine the most appropriate rehabilitation plan.

The goal isn't simply to settle your Achilles pain — it's to rebuild the strength and capacity your tendon needs for the activities you love.

Pain and stiffness in the tendon several centimetres above the heel can be associated with midportion Achilles tendinopathy. We assess calf strength and loading demands before developing a progressive tendon rehabilitation program.

Pain where the Achilles attaches to the heel may be aggravated by walking uphill, running or positions that compress the tendon against the heel bone. Rehabilitation considers tendon loading and the amount of ankle dorsiflexion used during exercise.

Achilles pain can develop when running volume, speed, hills or training frequency increase beyond current tendon capacity. We assess your training demands and develop a progressive plan for returning to running.

Achilles symptoms that repeatedly return may indicate ongoing difficulties tolerating physical loading. We review your rehabilitation history, calf strength and training demands to help develop a more sustainable approach.

A sudden pop, loss of push-off strength or difficulty walking may indicate an Achilles tendon rupture. These injuries require prompt medical assessment. Following diagnosis and appropriate management, we provide structured rehabilitation in accordance with the treating team's protocol.

Recovery following Achilles tendon surgery requires carefully staged rehabilitation that respects healing timeframes and surgical guidelines. We progressively restore movement, calf strength and functional capacity, using objective testing where appropriate.

Experienced Care. A Personal Approach.

Our physiotherapists combine clinical assessment, progressive strengthening and objective testing to help people with Achilles injuries return to everyday activities, running and sport.
