Darren graduated with a Physiotherapy degree from Sydney University in 1993. In 2005, he completed his Sports Physiotherapy Masters at Griffith University in Queensland. In 2006 he became a Titled APA Sports Physiotherapist. In 2019 he completed a Professional Certificate in Pain Sciences at the University of South Australia.

Career Highlights include:

  • Physiotherapist for the Australian Defence Force on a United Nations Mission in East Timor (August - November 2003). Flight Lieutenant in Royal Australia Air Force Specialist Reserve (Physiotherapy Mustering 2002-2004).

  • Physiotherapist for the Irish Olympic and Paralympic Teams (2000 Sydney Olympics).

  • Physiotherapist and athlete (driver) for the Australian Bobsleigh Team (North American and European Trips 1999-2000).

  • Physiotherapist for Western Suburbs Rugby League Club (2007-2016).

  • Previous owner & operator of a successful Newcastle Physiotherapy Practice (2001-2018).

  • Physiotherapist at Hunter Hand & Upper Limb Therapy (2019-current)

  • Research position with Newcastle Orthopaedic Research Institute (2019-current)


Darren has a special interest in shoulder, back and lower limb injuries, pre & post-operative rehabilitation and pain. He is passionate about helping people recover from injury or surgery and continually strives to further his knowledge. Personal interests include family time with his wife and three amazing children, 'coffee-time' with great friends, mountain biking, running, boating and travelling. He is a terrible fisherman!
