PATRICK NOLAN
PHYSIOTHERAPIST | RUNNING & CYCLING
B.Phty (Hons), APAM
Pat Nolan is a Newcastle physiotherapist at Up N Adam Performance Training & Physiotherapy in Hamilton North, with a particular interest in running injuries, cycling injuries, sports physiotherapy, neck pain & headaches and lower-limb rehabilitation.
An Honours graduate from the University of Newcastle, Pat previously worked at Lambton Physiotherapy & Sports Medicine, where he developed a busy caseload treating sporting and musculoskeletal injuries. His experience working with Newcastle's active community, combined with his own endurance-sport background, gives Pat a strong understanding of the demands involved in returning from injury to training and competition.
RUNNING PHYSIOTHERAPY
Pat is a keen distance runner and is currently training to break three hours for the marathon. He has a particular interest in assessing and treating running-related injuries including Achilles and calf pain, knee pain, hamstring injuries, hip pain and foot and ankle problems.
At Up N Adam, Pat can combine physiotherapy with running assessment, movement analysis, VALD strength testing and gym-based rehabilitation to identify strength and movement deficits and guide an individual return-to-running program.
CYCLING PHYSIOTHERAPY & BIKE FITTING
Pat is also an experienced cyclist and has competed in triathlons and Half Ironman events. He has a strong interest in cycling-related pain, injury rehabilitation and bike fitting.
Working alongside CycleFit physiotherapist Dean Waterman, Pat is continuing to develop his bike-fitting expertise using the advanced technology available at Up N Adam. He also works closely with competitive cyclists and is helping develop cycling-specific strength and performance services at the clinic.
SPORTS & MUSCULOSKELETAL PHYSIOTHERAPY
While running and cycling are particular interests, Pat treats a broad range of sports and musculoskeletal injuries. His approach combines hands-on physiotherapy where appropriate with progressive exercise, strength and conditioning and objective testing to help people return confidently to work, everyday activity and sport.
Pat has worked with Hamilton Azzurri and Stockton Sharks and is currently the physiotherapist for Wallsend FC, giving him extensive experience working with athletes across different sports and levels of competition.
PERFORMANCE TESTING & REHABILITATION
At Up N Adam, Pat combines physiotherapy with objective strength and performance testing to help identify physical deficits that may contribute to injury, limit performance or affect a safe return to sport.
Using VALD performance technology, including ForceDecks, ForceFrame, NordBord and Dyno testing, Pat can assess areas such as lower-limb strength, side-to-side differences, hamstring and calf capacity, force production and jumping performance. This provides measurable information that can be used to guide rehabilitation and monitor progress over time.
For runners, cyclists and endurance athletes, testing can be combined with running assessment, movement analysis and gym-based rehabilitation to identify whether strength or physical capacity may be limiting the athlete's ability to tolerate their training demands.
Rather than rehabilitation ending when pain settles, Pat's approach is to progressively rebuild the strength, capacity and confidence required for the individual's sport or activity. Where appropriate, athletes can also access Up N Adam's broader performance services, including strength and conditioning, CycleFit bike fitting and VO₂ and lactate threshold testing.
The aim is simple: don't just get back — build the capacity to stay back.
Whether you're preparing for your first 5 km, chasing a marathon PB, returning to the bike, competing at a high level or simply trying to get back to the activities you enjoy, Pat's aim is to identify what's limiting you, build a clear rehabilitation plan and help you return stronger and more confident.
